ABSTRAK


Asma merupakan inflamasi kronik pada jalan nafas yang disebabkan oleh hiperreponsivitas jalan nafas. Asma jika tidak segera ditangani dapat menurunkan kualitas hidup penderitanya. Kombinasi Tehnik Pernafasan Buteyko Dengan Inhalasi Sederhana Aromaterapi Daun Mint merupakan dua terapi yang berbeda yang sama-sama dapat menurunkan Tingkat Kontrol Asma. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengetahui pengaruh kombinasi tehnik pernafasan buteyko dengan inhalasi sederhana aromaterapi daun mint terhadap tingkat kontrol asma.

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif Quasy-Eksperiment dengan menggunakan desain Pre And Post Test With Control Group. Pengambilan sampel menggunakan random sampling. Responden kelompok perlakuan (n=20), responden kelompok kontrol (n=20). Masing-masing kelompok diukur tingkat kontrol asmanya menggunakan ACT (Asthma Control Test). Analisa data dengan Uji Wilcoxon untuk mengetahui hasil masing-masing kelompok,. Untuk mengetahui perbedaan antara kelompok perlakuan dan kelompok kontrol menggunakan Uji Mann Whitney.

Tingkat kontrol asma pre post test pada kelompok perlakuan menunjukan nilai p value = 0,000 yang nilai α < 0,05 sehingga terdapat perbedaan tingkat kontrol asma, Tingkat kontrol asma pre post test pada kelompok kontrol menunjukan nilai p value = 0,317 yang nilai α > 0,05 sehingga tidak terdapat perbedaan tingkat kontrol asma, sedangkan Tingkat kontrol asma post test kelompok kontrol dan perlakuan menunjukan nilai p value = 0,000 yang nilai α < 0,05.

Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah adanya perbedaan tingkat kontrol asma pada pasien asma secara signifikan setelah diberikan terapi kombinasi. Terapi kombinasi dapat direkomendasikan sebagai intervensi mandiri baik dalam layanan komunitas maupun rawat jalan.

EFFECT OF COMBINED THERAPY BETWEEN BUTEYKO BREATHING TECHNIQUE AND SIMPLE INHALATION OF MINT LEAF AROMATHERAPY ON ASTHMA CONTROL LEVEL


ABSTRACT


Asthma is a chronic inflammation of the respiratory tract due to its hyper-responsiveness. If it is not immediately handled, it can decrease the quality of life of its sufferers. Buteyko breathing technique and simple inhalation of mint leaf aromatherapy are two different therapies, which can decrease the asthma control level. The objective of this research is to investigate the effect of combined therapy between Buteyko breathing technique and simple inhalation of mint leaf aromatherapy on asthma control level.

This research used the quasi experimental research method with pre- and pos-test with control group design. Random sampling technique was used to determine its samples. The samples were divided into two, treatment group consisting of 20 respondents and control group consisting of 20 respondents. The asthma control level was measured by using the Asthma Control Test (ACT). The data of the research were analyzed by using the Wilcoxon’s Test as to investigate the result of each group. To investigate the difference between the two groups, the data were analyzed by using the Mann Whitney’s Test.

The asthma control level of the treatment group in the pre-test shows that the p-value was 0.000 where the α-value was less than 0.05, meaning that there was a different asthma control level. Meanwhile, the asthma control level of the control group in the pre-and post-test shows that the p-value was 0317 where the α-value was greater than 0.05, indicating that there was not any difference of asthma control level. Furthermore, the asthma control level of the control group and the treatment group in the post-test shows that the p-value was 0.000 where the α-value was less than 0.05.

Thus, there was a significant difference of asthma control level in the patients following the exposure to combined therapy. Combined therapy is therefore recommended as an independent intervention both for community service and outpatient service.
